All materials have been created, complied, and/or curated by Highly Qualified STEM & Environmental Educator Laura Rinehimer, the Environmental Education Coordinator at Eastern Pennsylvania Coalition for Abandoned Mine Reclamation (EPCAMR). EPCAMR’s YouTube channel and the links and resources on our Environmental Education and Outreach page were compiled, populated, and reorganized by EPCAMR Program Manager, Michael Hewitt.

Smithsonian – Science for the Classroom: How Can We Provide Freshwater to Those in Need?

How Can We Provide Freshwater to Those in Need? is part of Smithsonian Science for the Classroom, a new curriculum series by the Smithsonian Science Education Center. It is aligned to a group of grade 5 standards. It has a focus on engineering design, with a secondary focus on Earth and space science.

Organize a Community Clean-Up

Coordinate a cleanup in your community and remove trash, tires, and litter from your neighborhoods and your waterways. EPCAMR can help with supplies and resource contacts and other local community partnerships!

Other Ways to Support our Mission

Support the funding of Abandoned Mine Drainage (AMD) monitoring in our mining impacted watersheds

Support the placement of alternative energy development projects like community scale and or grid scale solar projects on abandoned mine lands in our communities

Support the research into the feasibility of alternative energy development projects that focus on using the underground mine pool complexes for geothermal energy projects in our communities.

Support the establishment of long term AMD Treatment Trust funds for all refurbished or newly constructed active mine water treatment plants or passive treatment systems.
